How it works
Character encoding determines how bytes become text. A file written in GBK but opened as UTF-8 may appear broken even when the original characters still exist. Always return to the original bytes instead of repeatedly converting already-garbled text. You can switch the encoding selector and compare the preview before exporting. The download uses UTF-8 with a BOM for Excel compatibility.
Important limitations
Auto-detection can be wrong for short or ambiguous legacy-encoded files. Previously replaced characters (such as literal ???) cannot reliably be recovered.
