How to use it

  1. Upload an SRT or WebVTT subtitle file, or paste the caption text.
  2. Select the destination format: SRT or VTT.
  3. Review the converted cue list and any warnings.
  4. Download the new subtitle file.

What's the difference between SRT and VTT?

Both formats store caption text with start and end timestamps. SRT typically uses numeric cue indexes and comma-based milliseconds such as 00:00:01,250. WebVTT starts with WEBVTT and uses periods for milliseconds such as 00:00:01.250.

The converter rebuilds subtitle cues and timings. It does not re-encode video or insert captions into media files. Advanced WebVTT features including positioning, regions and CSS styles may not survive conversion to SRT.

Frequently asked questions

Will the subtitle timings change?

No. Conversion preserves parsed cue start and end times. It only changes the subtitle container text format.

Does it convert VTT back to SRT?

Yes. Choose SubRip (.srt) as the output format; VTT cue positioning options that SRT does not support are discarded.

Can it convert embedded subtitles from MP4 or MKV?

Not in this version. This tool supports standalone text subtitle files, not subtitles embedded inside a video container.
