How to use it

  1. Upload an SRT or VTT text file, or paste subtitle text.
  2. The tool finds recognizable timestamp pairs, reads caption lines and renumbers cues from 1.
  3. Review the warnings for unreadable timing lines or skipped content.
  4. Download a cleaned .srt file.

Which SRT problems can be fixed?

Typical SRT errors include gaps in cue numbering, extra whitespace, periods instead of commas in milliseconds, and minor arrow formatting errors. The repair step rewrites recognized cues using a consistent, standard SRT structure.

It cannot accurately recreate timing data that is missing altogether or recover source text that has already been overwritten. If it finds invalid or reversed timestamps, it skips those cues and alerts you to review the output. Keep the original file until you have checked the repaired result.

Need to fix garbled letters? Encoding and structure are two different problems. If the text preview already looks wrong, use the encoding recovery tool first.

Frequently asked questions

Will repair change the subtitle text?

For recognized cues, it preserves the body text while normalizing the SRT wrapper. Unrecognized lines can be skipped, so review warnings.

Can it recreate completely missing timestamps?

No. There is no reliable way to infer the original timestamps from subtitle text alone.

What if the file has encoding problems too?

First decode the file with the subtitle encoding tool and export UTF-8. Then open the resulting file in the repair tool.
